A little bit more Ibiza

As soon as it gets warmer, Ibiza has the well-known flair of being more relaxed and laid-back than other Balearic Islands. As soon as I land, I feel this mixture of “let go of everything and let yourself drift” and “take the music with you that can be heard everywhere”. At the W Hotel Ibiza in Santa Eulària, chill-out music and techno accompany me all day. Music is part of hotel life here.

The hotel opened in autumn 2019, with colours and elements that reflect the island’s sand, sea and sky. A dream is the rooftop bar, The Glow, with its infinity pool. This is where locals and hotel guests gather for cocktails and tasty treats like the sushi variation. Important to know: Only Adults has been the order of the day at the bar since 2021. The Llama restaurant offers a comprehensive breakfast to dinner menu (reservations are important!). In general, there is a lot to discover at the W Ibiza. On a guided tour, which you should simply ask for, you will be surprised how many hidden “treasures” the hotel has to offer. For remote working, however, the hotel is only suitable to a limited extent. There is little space to withdraw and work in peace or hold online meetings. For groups, however, there is a meeting room with full technical equipment. I have a room in the Wonderful Room category (standard room), which is right for a few bleisure days before or after a business trip, but not for a longer stay. The balcony faces the pool. The bathroom is spacious, but otherwise there is little storage space in the room. For video calls, you can book a higher WLAN bandwidth for an extra charge. If you want more luxury, the hotel offers everything from the Fabulous Room to the Spectacular Suite with its own small pool to the EWOW Suite with 100 square metres and its own terrace.

Working on favorite beaches – or not

Ibiza stands for life and enjoyment on the beach. My personal favourite beach is at Cala Jondal – the Tropicana: gorgeous sea, food and delicious drinks, almost “magical” massages – simply everything you need for a relaxed beach day. The beach is only 20 minutes away from the W Hotel by car. My second tip is the beach at the Aiyanna with the beach bar in Cala Nova. Surfers in particular meet here in the small, dreamlike bay to let off steam in the waves. For an aperitif or dinner, try the Amante restaurant in Cala llonga. Built into the rocks over many steps, this is one of the best places to enjoy the sunset. And another restaurant tip: the Casa Colonial in Santa Eulària. Here you not only eat exceptionally well in a great atmosphere, but the service team has so much fun with their job that they sometimes even take up a musical instrument. If you want to be sure of getting a table here, you should make a reservation in the restaurant immediately after booking your flight. The waiting times are sometimes months in advance, but it’s worth it.

And finally, the hippie markets in Las Dalias. Yes, they are a real experience and allow you to immerse yourself in a world that is as relaxed as it is creative. In the season between June and October, you can always find a bargain here. It’s best to take good old cash with you, credit cards are not accepted. And if you want to get a taste of the free spirit, come to the Namaste Fest on Wednesday evenings for lots of dancing and partying. Nowhere else does it show like here: Ibiza is an attitude to life. Just let yourself go with it.

Arrival: Various airlines fly to Ibiza Airport (IBZ) Sant Antoni de Portmany. From here it is around 20 minutes by car to W Ibiza in Santa Eulàlia, 21 km away.

Hotel: The W Ibiza has 162 rooms and suites, some with private pools, as well as several restaurants such as the beach restaurant Chiringuito Blue, La Llama with fire grill, Ve Cafe as a vegetarian restaurant and the rooftop bar Glow. There is also the Wet Deck, another pool, a fitness area and the 350-square-metre Away Spa with six treatment rooms. External guests can also use the hotel facilities with a day ticket. The 2022 season is expected to start at the end of April. Currently, the hotel is offering an early bird deal with up to 35 per cent discount for a stay between 22 April and 16 October 2022.
