Apartments as a safe haven

“For those who are on the move or live nearby, serviced apartments are currently the safest second home for them. Most houses had never closed even during the Corona crisis.” Anett Gregorius, owner of Apartmentservice

Kitchen, living area, desk, often contactless entrances and a supermarket around the corner – Serviced Apartments have long been the second-home alternative to a hotel for business travellers who live for weeks or months in a external place. During the Corona period, many stranded business travellers, medical staff and people seeking peace and privacy use Serviced Apartments in a special way as a place of residence and refuge. Many of the professional longstay providers have also reduced their usual minimum stay to one night or offer the possibility of home office hours.

Unlike hotels, the majority of serviced apartment buildings and aparthotels never closed during the lockdown. In March 2020 alone, according to Apartmentservice, 70 percent of the houses in Germany were still open, including the Adina Hotels (photo), ipartment, Smartments Business, Adapt Apartments Berlin, Visionapartments and some Living Hotels. A similar number of houses were still in operation in Austria, Switzerland and the UK.

Campaign #Weareopen

“On apartmentservice.de all open houses are listed,” says Anett Gregorius. With her team the owner of the company based in Berlin had started the campaign #Weareopen with the initiative Safe in Your Second Home #stayhome in March 2020.
