Single working in the mountains

„A quick trip to the mountains between work? l tried that out at TUI Blue Fieberbrunn in Tyrol and learnded a lot.” Sylvie Konzack

I have to admit, for a long time I thought TUI Blue was a holiday club offering – which would have made it my first holiday club visit. But I was wrong. “We don’t have classic animation or children’s clubs and all-inclusive offers in all our hotels. We are not a club product,” I was corrected – and I was happy about that again. So far, holiday clubs as leisure-fun paradises seem to me to be the furthest away from the remote-work idea. It’s true that there are exciting programmes now, and that’s a good thing. But they don’t work everywhere yet. Above all, we know from our own research that the WLAN offer and the room facilities are still expandable.

So now a three-day Workation trip not in a club, but in a Tyrolean holiday hotel which, like the TUI Blue hotels on Sylt, Fuerteventura, the Algarve, in Marrakech and Agadir, is taking part in the Work+Vacation@TUIBlue programme. Almost on my doorstep, I want to change the environment here, get some work done and recharge my batteries in the mountains in between. I travel with my child by ICE and regional train via Munich and Wörgl past Kitzbühel to Fieberbrunn. A shuttle picks us up here for the last five minutes of the drive, and then we are standing – after three hours from door to door – right in front of the hotel, the mountain, the mountain station. So if you come by car, you can leave it right here. Hiking, mountain biking, climbing or skiing for an hour or two on the mountain between work is possible here and the hotel’s location alone makes it workation-perfect.

Peace, mountain, fun

The hotel itself also offers many Workation advantages. This is ensured by the comparatively large rooms from 30 square metres, all with a desk, comfortable chair, many sockets, some also with a sofa and many with large balconies, seating furniture and mountain views. The TV can be connected to the laptop and the Wi-Fi works perfectly. There is also a meeting room and business corner with printing services. “Many Workation guests also sit relaxed in the lobby, at the bar or on the terrace, only some are here with their families. And actually, there are never any children running around here,” says Tom from the hotel. It is also quiet in the spa with its small indoor pool and in the restaurant at the buffet. Couples meet smaller groups here, now and then there are families. We sit in the extra-quiet part because we want it that way.

The next day, after my first work shift, we set off for the mountain for two or three hours. The choice of mountain railways and hiking tours is huge. Buchensteinwand, Pillersee, Steinplatte Waidring, Gaisberg Trail – everything can be conquered without effort with the PillerseeTal Card or Kitzbüheler Alpen Card. We drive to the Streuböden mountain station and dive into “Timok’s Wild World”: The forest ropes course, the Alpine Coaster and the mountain hut are great fun not only for my child.
Fast, intensive mountain time-outs and high-energy work here – maybe next time it will be more days.

Sylvie Konzack …

has seen with interest what holiday hotels already offer more in terms of workation than “just” the mountain, beach or pool in front of your nose. And you don’t always have to go far away for that.
