“On business in Munich or Innsbruck in winter and fancy a ski? Tyrol and hotels such as the Interalpen-Hotel Tyrol promise pure winter bleisure”. Katja Wunderlich, TV and radio presenter, guest author of Bleisure Traveller
Fancy a break in the Tiroler Märchenland? That describes pretty much exactly what Tyrol and especially the Interalpen-Hotel Tyrol in Telfs-Buchen/Seefeld, Austria, gave me.
The five-star superior hotel is about two hours’ drive from Munich and about 35 minutes from Innsbruck. Situated on an isolated plateau at 1,300 metres above sea level with a 360-degree panoramic view, it was here in the early 1980s that entrepreneur Hans Liebherr realised his dream of a large hotel in the middle of the Alps. The luxury hotel was built in such a way that guests can enjoy a view of the snow-covered mountains from each of the more than 280 rooms and suites – a special spectacle, especially when the sun is shining. New on the sixth floor are the lodge-style rooms, some of which have a panoramic roof terrace, tiled stove and private sauna.
Full of skiing
But time for skiing – that’s what I’m here for above all. There are exciting cross-country ski runs in the region for beginners and advanced skiers, and there are also some opportunities for tobogganing. But my heart beats above all for the downhill. And here you can let off steam unrestrained in the Seefeld/Rosshütte area. About 20 minutes from the hotel and easily accessible by car, Seefeld/Rosshütte offers plenty of parking, short waiting times at the lifts and plenty of space on the well-prepared slopes. Other ski areas in the area include Hochötz in the Ötztal (35 minutes away), Axamer Lizum in Axams (40 minutes) and Hochzeiger in the Pitztal (50 minutes). A little further away is the Stubai Glacier, for which you have to allow about 80 minutes driving.
Apres Ski in the Spa
Back at the Interalpen-Hotel, the huge, multi-award-winning wellness area, which is impressively designed in the Tyrolean village character, beckons. A real experience!
With 5,300 square metres of space, you always have enough privacy and space. But of course not only that: both the heated outdoor pool with a view of the mountains and the Tyrolean sauna village with brine grotto, panoramic relaxation rooms and a large spa garden are highlights here. In addition, there is the new Ladies Spa and the open express beauty area. Special praise goes to the fitness rooms, which are often treated somewhat neglected in luxury hotels. At the Interalpen-Hotel Tyrol, someone had shown their expertise in the selection of equipment and the design, with everything being spacious and bright. There are a few more push-ups to go.
More than skiing and wellness?
I don’t really need anything more than ski and wellness. But from here, if you wanted to, you could also go 40 minutes to Wattens to the not so kitschy Svarovski Crystal Worlds and the “007 Elements – James Bond Adventure World” in Sölden, 80 kilometres away. Or simply take the road to Innsbruck and clear your mind for the busy start of the year at the markets around the Golden Roof. And for those who want to catch up with their family: the Alpine Zoo in Innsbruck is always a highlight, as is Ambras Castle.
Katja Wunderlich …
can also imagine meeting with colleagues here in winter for a meeting and subsequent departure. She finds the Interalpen-Alm with its panoramic terrace particularly exciting.
